WordDelve — Privacy Policy

Overview

WordDelve is a word-guessing roguelike game developed by AppDestroy. You can play it in the iPhone and Android apps or in your browser at worddelve.app. This policy covers all of them, and explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep things simple: we only collect what we need to run the game, and we never sell your personal information. WordDelve contains no ads and no third-party ad trackers.

Playing Without an Account

You can play WordDelve without creating an account. In that case, your game progress is stored only on your device: in the app, or in your browser's storage on the web. No account data is uploaded, and uninstalling the app (or clearing the site's data in your browser) deletes your progress. Cloud sync and leaderboards require signing in.

Information We Collect

Account information. If you sign in with Google (in the apps or on the web) or Apple (in the iPhone app), we store a basic account identifier from that sign-in provider.
Username. You choose a username for leaderboards. Usernames are stored with your account and are visible to other players on leaderboards.
Game data. Aggregate gameplay statistics — runs played, rounds completed, words guessed, win/loss counts, streaks, wheel spins, and similar counters — so your progress syncs across your devices.
Leaderboard entries. When you play with an account, your username and scores are posted to in-game leaderboards.
Usage analytics. Information about how the game is played (such as how deep runs get, which boons and curses are chosen, screens visited, and taps on Share or store links), via Google Analytics for Firebase. It is tied to a random identifier for your app install or browser, not to your name or account, and we only look at it in aggregate to improve the game. On the web it is only collected as described under Cookies & Browser Storage.
Crash reports. In the apps, Firebase Crashlytics collects diagnostic data when the app crashes, to help us fix bugs.

Cookies & Browser Storage (Website and Web Game)

On worddelve.app, the website and the web game use your browser's local storage to keep your settings, your progress when you're not signed in, and your sign-in session if you sign in.

With your consent, we also use Google Analytics cookies to understand how the site and the web game are used. If your browser is set to a European time zone, we ask first and load nothing until you choose Allow; in the EU, the UK and Switzerland, Google also keeps analytics cookies off unless you have allowed them. Elsewhere, analytics is on by default. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of worddelve.app, or by clearing the site's data in your browser.

We never use advertising cookies: ad storage and ad personalization are always turned off, and Google signals are disabled.

How We Use Your Information

To save and sync your game progress across your devices.
To power leaderboards.
To improve gameplay, balance, and overall app quality.
To respond to support requests you send us.

We do not use your information to serve ads, and we do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Third-Party Services

WordDelve uses the following services to run the game:

Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics, and Hosting) for sign-in, progress sync, leaderboards, analytics, crash reporting, and serving worddelve.app. On the web, Google Analytics and parts of Firebase load from Google's servers, which receive your IP address as part of delivering them, and Firebase Hosting keeps standard server logs. Google processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Sign in with Apple when you choose Apple sign-in. Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy.

Deleting Your Account & Data

You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app:

Open WordDelve and sign in.
Go to Settings.
Tap Delete Account and confirm.

Deletion is permanent and removes your account, game statistics, leaderboard entries, and username. Data stored locally on your device is cleared at the same time. Deletion takes effect immediately; some cached or backup copies may persist for up to 30 days on our service providers' systems.

If you cannot delete your account in the app (for example, because you no longer have access to it), email appdestroy@gmail.com and we will delete it for you.

Data Retention

Your account and game data are stored for as long as your account exists. If you play without an account, data stays only on your device until you uninstall the app or clear the site's data in your browser. Analytics data is kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months.

Children's Privacy

WordDelve is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
